The Frankfort Hotel
The Frankfort Hotel was located at 213 West Main Street address that served several hotel buildings for nearly 100 years. The first known hotel at this location was built by George Buhr in 1869 - a two story brick building. In 1881 Buhr remodeled, enlarging the structure to offer eighteen rooms, however it was destroyed by fire within a year. In 1883 Buhr was back with an even bigger and better facility: a pressed brick building four stories in height with a mansard roof and forty five rooms with running water, gas and electricity, plus a handsome parlor. The front of the building featured a series of balconies and bay windows designed by Oscar Cobb of Chicago. The interior plan was executed by Frankfort’s prolific builder John Haly and sported Brussel’s carpeting in the halls and rooms.
